Petition Woking Borough Council for Transparency
Woking currently has a borough council with 30 councillors representing our local communities and our priorities across our town. Our local government is dedicated to Woking itself, whilst Surrey County Council governs wider areas, such as roads and some schools. There are plans to absorb our Woking Borough Council (WBC) into a Surrey 'Unitary Authority'.
Woking Borough Council has allocated £30,000 of our local contingency fund to spend on consultants to report on proposals for a Unitary Authority. However, this report will be secret and not available to WBC residents.
Our petition demands that there should be no secret briefings on local democracy and that residents should see the full report.
