Surrey County Council will no longer charge young care leavers Council Tax

Following a request by the Lib Dems, Surrey County Council has agreed to exempt young care leavers from paying its share of Council Tax.

Earlier today, Surrey's Full Council approved a report from the Cabinet to give young people who have been in the care system a discount of 75% on their Council Tax, which is the Surrey Council portion of Council Tax bills. About 600 young people under 25 who have left the care of the Council will no longer have to pay full Council Tax from next April.

Will Forster selected as Woking's prospective Lib Dem MP

The Lib Dems are delighted to announce that local Borough and County Councillor, former Mayor and life-long resident Will Forster has been selected as the Lib Dem candidate to be Woking Constituency's new MP.

Will Forster is an experienced Lib Dem Councillor, representing Hoe Valley on Woking Borough Council and Woking South on Surrey County Council. Until May this year, he was Mayor of Woking, during which time he strongly supported the Borough's voluntary sector and raised tens of thousands of pounds for his Mayor's Charity, the York Road Project. Will grew up in Goldsworth Park and Horsell, where he attended local schools including Horsell Church of England Middle School, Woking High School and Woking College. He lived in Westfield for many years and now lives near Woking Park with his partner Hannah and their sausage dog, Toffee.

Will Forster: "It is a huge honour to have been chosen as the Lib Dems' candidate to be Woking's MP. As a Councillor and Mayor, I have always worked my hardest to support Woking and its residents. I want to be Woking's strong, local and liberal voice in Parliament."

"We face a critical point in our country's history and with a General Election looking likely before the end of the year, this is our chance to change the future of our country. The Lib Dems and I want to stop Brexit, invest in public services like our NHS and take action to fight climate change."

Tories starve Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust of £910,381

The Lib Dems have slammed the Conservatives as "heartless" for starving the NHS of vital cash after revealing that the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust paid £910,381 in interest on outstanding debt over the last five years.

Former Lib Dem leader, Tim Farron, warned taxpayers money being spent "lining the Government's coffers instead of training more doctors and nurses" was "an absolute slap in the face to all of us that rely on the NHS".

The Lib Dems have criticised Boris Johnson for breaking the law and lying to the Queen to stop MPs scrutinising his Government.

The Supreme Court has made their ruling - the prorogation of Parliament was illegal. MPs should be allowed to scrutinise the Government without having their voices silenced, that is the basis for our democracy.

Surrey now has a Lib Dem MP, as Sam Gyimah, former Conservative MP for East Surrey joined the party on the first day of the Party Conference.

Sam Gyimah feels the two old parties have moved to the edges of the political spectrum - each with their own brand of intolerance and division - leaving millions political homeless. Whereas, Jo Swinson and the Lib Dems are a real movement that can unite the centre, bringing together liberal-minded people to offer a real alternative.

During the recent Lib Dem Party Conference, members voted to commit the party to revoking Article 50 in the event of a Lib Dem majority Government.

The Lib Dems are crystal clear: if they win the next election, they will stop Brexit by revoking Article 50 and remaining in the European Union.

People deserve better than Boris Johnson's No Deal Brexit and Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Brexit. At the next election, voters can instead choose the Lib Dems, and the party's clear and unequivocal policy to Stop Brexit.

Boris Johnson undermines democracy while Woking's MP stands by.

Earlier this week, the Queen agreed to Boris Johnson's demand to suspend Parliament and thereby deny democratic debate at one of the most critical times in our country's history.

Councillor Will Forster, Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson, said:
