WillF and GuyC Egley RdThere are plans to build almost 100 properties on former Green Belt land off Egley Road in Mayford.

The land to west of Egley Road between Mayford and Woking was recently released from Green Belt by both the Government's Planning Inspector and Woking Borough Council. As a result, Cala Homes and Barchester Healthcare are jointly proposing a development of 94 new units, made up of a mixture of a care home and houses, along with a new road access from Egley Road.

Cala Homes and Barchester Healthcare will be running a public consultation on their plans between now and Thursday 14th April. The consultation will include a virtual exhibition via the project website - www.egleyroad.consultationonline.co.uk - as well as an in-person consultation event at Mayford Village Hall on Thursday 24th March 2022 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Lib Dem candidate for Heathlands, Guy Cosnahan said:

"Local Lib Dem Councillor Will Forster and I are opposing these plans. We believe this development is wrong for our area, as it would destroy the last strip of green space between Mayford and Woking. Our local green spaces are vital for the future of our communities and must be protected for future generations from development."

"The Conservatives running Woking Borough Council forced through controversial tower blocks in Woking town centre, saying that this was to protect our Green Belt. Yet Mayford's Green Belt is now threatened with development. The Tory-run Council's approach to planning has clearly failed."
