Will Forster and ToffeeThe Lib Dems are calling on Woking Borough Council to improve its parks and open spaces as more people have been using them during the pandemic.

With the Government's coronavirus restrictions encouraging people to stay local residents are spending a lot more time in the Borough's green spaces.

However, Woking's parks and open spaces fall way behind those run by other local authorities including neighbouring Guildford Borough Council's parks. The Green Flag Award, the national scheme that recognises well managed parks and green spaces, has only been awarded to one in Woking but ten of Guildford's parks.

Councillor Will Forster has tabled a motion to the Full Council meeting on 8th April calling for the Council to improve Woking's parks up to the Green Flag Award standard.

Will Forster, Lib Dem Councillor for Hoe Valley, said:

"This past year has been a year like no other. Throughout, I have felt so grateful for the wonderful green spaces we have on our doorstep across Woking. Our parks have been used more than ever in the last year, but this increased usage needs to come with increased maintenance."

"Woking Council needs to acknowledge that its parks should be better. The Council was rightly pleased that Brookwood Cemetery got a Green Flag Award, but Guildford Borough has ten such awards - local people in Woking deserve good quality open spaces too."
