Vince Cable Comes to Woking

VINCE CABLE HAILS LIB DEM SUCCESSES IN GOVERNMENT IN WOKING SPEECH

Woking Liberal Democrats were delighted to welcome Dr Vince Cable to Woking on Saturday 26 October.

Vince told local Liberal Democrats and guests about departmental achievements to date. These include the growing number of apprentices, the setting up of the Green Investment bank and businesses working in partnership with the government.

Looking forward Vince is seeking to make progress on zero hours contracts and the decline in the real value of the minimum wage.

Dr Cable, the Secretary of State for Business Information and Skills, was speaking to over 70 guests at a dinner held at Sutton Green Golf Club.

Dr Cable was dismissive of the green credentials of his Conservative coalition partners saying "Cameron now seems to be turning a rather pale shade of green". Vince believes that dropping green energy tariffs, which help to fund energy efficiency measures to those who need help to insulate their homes, would be "short-sighted and foolish".

Following his speech Vince answered a wide range of questions from the audience. On house prices he noted that the average house price in Woking is now 10 times average income and said his solution is to build more homes.

Finishing on a lighter note Vince was asked what he would do if he wasn't an MP and he had a range of ways to spend his time including dancing, teaching and spending more time with his wife.

"We were delighted to have Vince Cable with us for the evening" said local Lib Dem Group Leader Cllr. Ann-Marie Barker. "It was good to hear about the positive achievements on the economy and the environment of Lib Dems in government".
