Woking Liberal DemocratsCommenting on today's announcement which will see Sir Terry Leahy overseeing a regional economic plan and the establishment of a network of Technology and Innovations Centres, Liberal Democrat Candidate for Oldham East and Saddleworth, Elywn Watkins said:
"I welcome today's announcement which will help create jobs and bring investment to the region. I have already met with the Business Secretary, Vince Cable, and I have invited the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, to Oldham today to meet with local leaders to ensure Oldham East and Saddleworth is at the forefront of this drive for growth.
"This shows that Lib Dems are delivering on our promise to generate jobs and future growth through regional investment in the North West.
"Labour had 13 years to do this and failed. They now offer no answers, have no regrets and seemingly make no apologies.
"Having worked closely with local businesses for many years, I know the challenges and opportunities facing the area and am committed to delivering on my promise of creating jobs and growth in Oldham East and Saddleworth."
