    The Eurozone has grown twice as fast as the UK, which in no time has gone from the top of the growth league to the bottom.

    The government's shambolic handling of Brexit, which is denting business confidence by the day, is certainly not helping.

    It is ironic that one of the underlying arguments for Brexit was that the British economy was supposedly being held back by a sclerotic Euro-zone.

    Jeremy Corbyn has ruled out membership of the Single Market, claiming on the Andrew Marr Show today that it is dependent on membership of the EU.

    Liberal Democrat Brexit Spokesperson Tom Brake said: "Jeremy Corbyn's failure to stand up for the Single Market is a betrayal of future generations who will suffer most from an extreme Brexit.

    There is a Knife Amnesty in Surrey until Wed 26th July, with collection points in Guildford, Staines, Reigate and Woking. Surrey Police are appealing to anyone, including parents and carers, who know someone who carries a knife to encourage them to dispose of it.

    Local Lib Dem campaigner and former Cllr Liam Lyons said, "The devastating effect of knife crime on people's lives is clear for all of us to see. We commend our hard-working police force's proactive efforts to reduce knife crime."

    An open air commemoration service was hosted at the Muslim Burial Ground, Horsell Common, Woking on Sunday 16 July 2017.The service marked the anniversary of the first Muslim soldier, killed during the Great War, buried at the Muslim Burial Ground on 16 July 1915. This site became the final resting place of 19 Muslim Soldiers from the Great War and a further eight soldiers from World War 2.

    One month on from this tragedy, there is no less pain for the victims and their families, no less fear, and no less anger over the failings of the political system.

    The disaster at Grenfell Tower has left a huge scar, not just in the local community of Kensington, but across Britain. It has moved people deeply, whether they have local connections or not, and that has been reflected in the generosity shown by public donations. It has also exposed deep divisions and inequalities in our society which we have ignored for far too long. This disaster should have been avoided. How is it possible that, in a very wealthy borough like Kensington and Chelsea, dozens of people can burn to death in their own homes?

    The Office for Budgetary Responsibility (OBR) has warned that even a small hit to productivity caused by Brexit could cause a £97bn hit to the UK economy in the long-term, reducing tax receipts by £36 billion.

    The OBR report also describes future tax receipts as being "particularly vulnerable" to the impact of Brexit on the financial sector, which could face up to 60,000 job losses.

    Liberal Democrat county councillors in Surrey have launched a petition to save four community recycling centres earmarked for closure by the Conservative administration at County Hall after a huge outcry from local residents. The petition also calls for the county council to scrap plans to reduce the opening times of every CRC in the county by 2 days per week and increase the charge for residents disposing of waste. The four centres earmarked for closure are Bagshot, Cranleigh, Dorking and Warlingham.

    Government plans to axe free school lunches have been dropped in another humiliating u-turn. Commenting on the news, Liberal Democrat Shadow Education Secretary Layla Moran said:

    "Theresa May was worried that she would go down in history as the lunch snatcher. Dropping these plans is just another humiliating climb down, in what seems to becoming a long list for the Prime Minister.

    Liberal Democrat county councillors have criticised Conservative-run Surrey County Council after it emerged that after only two months of the new financial year, the county council is already predicted to overspend by £24 million pounds. According to the county council, this overspend has been caused by the failure to achieve millions of pounds of savings, as well as a significant overspend of £12.1m in the Children's Services department.
