Speaking today at Oxford Brookes University, Nick Clegg said:
"One thing I will not do, and Labour and the Conservatives are doing, is try to fool you into thinking that you can fill in one of the biggest black holes in our public finances in generations through phantom, fantasy 'efficiency savings'.
Students will be saddled with debts as high as £44,000 in the next five years under Labour and Conservative plans to raise tuition fees after the election, the Liberal Democrats have predicted.
Only the Liberal Democrats are committed to scrapping tuition fees and opposing any attempt to raise them. We will phase out tuition fees over six years, starting by immediately scrapping final year fees for students doing their first degree.
Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Woking Borough Council Cllr Ian Johnson has asked voters to remember that there are 2 elections on May 6th. Ian said "In all the unbelievable excitement of Nick Clegg's General Election campaign, voters may forget that there are crucial Borough Council Elections next week. Currently the Lib Dems only need to gain one seat from the Tories to take control of the Council."
Commenting on the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) report on the parties' manifestos Vince Cable said:
On tackling the deficit:
"The IFS clearly shows that the Liberal Democrats have gone further than any party in identifying the savings that will be needed to tackle the structural deficit.
"The Conservatives have pledged to make the biggest cuts to spending since the Second World War without coming clean about where the axe will fall.
If you want to have your chance to come and hear what myself and the other candidates have to say on matters that effect you before you cast your vote on May 6th, then why not come along to one of the hustings that are coming up.
There are two more before the election, details of which are listed below
Commenting on David Cameron's description of Proportional Representation as a 'great con', Chris Huhne said:
"David Cameron doesn't want change at all. He's just another old-style politician making a grab for absolute power with just one in three of the votes.
"He's happy for your vote not to count so that he can keep his MPs in safe seats tending to their moats and duck houses instead of the people they are supposed to represent."
