Shabanna Jamil for Maybury and Sheerwater

Shabanna is a British Asian of Pakistani origin and has lived in Woking all her life. She comes from a large family and is number five of six children. she has Iived in Maybury until I she was 9 years old and went to Broadmere School in Sheerwater. Her family then moved to Goldsworth Park where she attended Beaufort Primary and the Winston Churchill School. After an A level course at Guildford College, she studied law at the University of Kent at Canterbury. After obtaining her LLB, she did a Masters Degree in International Commercial Law, reading Human Rights and Erosion of the same in the modern age. After working as a paralegal for a year in many firms to get a feel for the profession. she then went to Guildford Law School, where she completed the Legal Practice Course. Shabanna worked at Barlow Robbins LLP before obtaining a training contract with Sriharans Solicitors, who specialise in Conveyancing, Immigration, Family Law and Litigation.

Shabanna volunteers for the London Detainee Support Group providing emotional support and access to information for those that are detained illegally for long periods of time.

Shabanna says "I am a very sociable person, love family and enjoy spending time with friends. I enjoy reading literature, foreign writers, tennis, theatre and cinema. I also enjoy travelling and experiencing different cultures from Parisian to Berber."

"I want to become a Councillor because there is a need for change and I have a genuine desire to help people and to build bridges within our community. I want to work for the whole community, helping to give the young something to look forward to and be excited about, and the elderly something to look back and be proud."
