Woking Liberal Democrats: Working for Woking and Borough, All Year Round

ROSIE SHARPLEY - Woking Liberal Democrats Parliamentary Spokesperson

Cllr Rosie Sharpley

Rosie has lived in Woking for over 30 years, has worked in the NHS locally for over 20 years and has been a councillor for Goldsworth Park for 20 years. She has a passion for Woking and its residents and believes that her long experience will be of benefit to the community. She is well known for having a raw enthusiasm for campaigning with a reputation for not letting go.

Rosie says "I have served Woking in very distinct ways over many years which gives me a unique insight into the lives of Woking people.I look forward to using my knowledge and skills at this level and challenge both the Conservatives and Labour on their policies which affect all of us. We will challenge them on the unfairness of the tax system on their solutions for climate change and on civil liberties"

Cllr Ian Johnson, Leader of the Liberal Democrats on the Council said "We are delighted that Rosie is our Parliamentary Spokesperson and look forward to continuing working with her for the benefit of Woking people".

Rosemary McCrum, Constituency Chair of the Woking Liberal Democrats said:

"Rosie's experience will add to and complement the Liberal Democrat successes already achieved locally. She has a strong reputation of getting things done with a common sense approach."

Rosie is adamant that a new parliament requires a new type of politics and believes only the Liberal Democrats will deliver this. Following the disgraceful expenses scandal Rosie has made the following pledges to the people of Woking:

  • I will publish in detail all expenses reclaimed in the pursuit of my parliamentary duties

  • I will be a full time MP and will never accept any paid directorships

  • I will never seek to profit from the MPs' second home allowance

  • I will always put the interests of local people above my own or my Party's

  • I will continue to live in Woking, among the community I serve

  • I will serve all my constituents, regardless of their politics

  • I will not employ any members of my family

  • I will act with honesty, integrity, openness and candour at all times

  • I will tell people my real views, even when I know they will disagree with me

Rosie believes that the Lib Dems are the only party that really believes in fairness and firmly backs the party's 4 pillars going into the forthcoming General Election: fair taxes; a fair start for every child; fair, clean and local politics; and a fair, green economy with jobs that last.

Rosie is looking at as many ways as possible to keep in touch with voters up to the next election.
