DIANA SMITH: The Positive Choice for Knaphill and Goldsworth West

Diana Smith

RE-ELECT County Councillor Diana Smith

Diana Smith has lived on Goldsworth Park with her family for more than 20 years, representing you on Surrey County Council since 2004. Diana is a long-standing Governor at Beaufort Primary School, and the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Schools and Learning on SCC. Diana had a varied career in the BBC, including Blue Peter and BBC School Radio.

Diana Smith at Pedestrian Crossing

"Four new pedestrian crossings on my patch! I’m particularly pleased with the Denton Way crossing because I persuaded Waitrose and SCC that planning gain money should be used for this, not for removing the Bampton Way bus lay-by.”

I will work hard for better services, fairly shared

  • New Knaphill Library open with longer hours and community use

  • Better road crossings for people walking to local schools and shops

  • Successful campaigning at County Hall for investment in road drainage; against closing youth centres and libraries;

  • To hold the Tory Executive to account for its appalling performance in Children's Services.

Diana Smith on Cycle Path

"Making the canal towpath a pedestrian and cycle highway into Woking is brilliant. I’m been proud to support this on the Local Transport Committee, on the Joint Management Committee of the Basingstoke Canal, and as a resident.”

I believe in listening to you

  • Regular 'surgeries' for residents.

  • Working with residents individually to cut through bureaucracy and get problems fixed.

Diana Smith outside school

"I’m a long- standing School Governor; this experience helps me work for better schools and better services for children throughout my Division and the whole of Surrey, on the Schools and Learning Committee.”

I keep you in touch with what's going on

  • Through the local press, newsletters, and a regular monthly column in the GPCA News, now in its fifth year.

  • Through www.dianasmith.mycouncillor.org.uk , shortlisted Best New Liberal Democrat Blog for 2008
