Tories short-sighted about solving the housing shortage

Commenting on David Cameron's proposal to massively extend "right to buy" home ownership schemes, Liberal Democrat Housing Spokesperson, Dan Rogerson MP said:

"Simply extending 'right to buy' would only diminish the supply of social housing and do nothing to tackle the real issue which is the shortage of decent affordable homes.

"Struggling first time buyers would be better served by inventive Liberal Democrat 'golden share' schemes that lower the first rung of the housing ladder.

"We need to give communities the power to come up with innovative solutions to their housing problems, not just recycle old Thatcherite policies."
