The Westfield Moor Lane Area Residents' Association took up Councillor Derek McCrum's suggestion for a petition concerning the proposed development of some 470 houses on Moor Lane. This resulted in 350+ signatures being collected in one week and being presented to Woking Borough Council.

The Residents Association are seriously concerned that little thought has been given to the infrastructure.

The funding to build 190 decent affordable family homes has already been assured and WBC has, due to the petition, set aside £30,000 to ensure proper consultation with residents. This began at the Kingfield and Westfield TUNE IN, held recently at Moorcroft, where residents were encouraged to discuss proposals and voice concerns.

Residents of Mayford and Sutton Green had their Tune In Meeting earlier in the year and this development does affect them as near neighbours.

Councillor McCrum fought the closure of Westfield School proposed by SCC Councillor Andrew Crisp. He also insisted that access from the Moor Lane scheme, via Newlands Avenue, be removed from the plans. More recently he has been fighting for resurfacing to Bonsey Lane which is the access road to Westfield School and a Puffin Pedestrian Crossing on Westfield Road, now scheduled at last to be started this Sept/Oct.

Secondary School Provision for all South Woking children is already a problem, improvements to New Lane leading to Sutton Green and a new sewage pumping station on Bonners Close. All these are vital infrastructure needs in the certainty of development on Moor Lane which are under the control off Surrey County Council
