DON'T LOSE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE

Important information, which will enable Woking Borough Council to compile the electoral register, will be dropping through every resident's letter box at the end of this week (Friday 18 August).

Residents will receive a voter registration form, asking for the details of all people over the age of 16 living within each household. Residents need to write in the names and nationality of all people eligible to vote at the property, then sign the form and return it to Woking Borough Council, using the pre-paid envelope supplied.

This information will be used to compile the electoral register which, once complete, will create an accurate list of all the people in Woking who are eligible to vote in elections.

This year, as part of the work to ensure the integrity of the electoral register, the details relating to electors presently registered at the property have not been pre-printed on the canvass forms, so everybody needs to fill in the form in order to be included on the register.

Cllr Sue Smith, Portfolio Holder for Elections and Electoral Registration, said: "It is really important that all residents have the opportunity to influence what happens in their local community. I would like to urge all residents to complete and return their voter registration form to ensure that they are included on the electoral register and can vote. I would also like to remind residents who have lived at their address for many years, that they will also need to fully complete the form. This is part of improved security measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral register."
