SURREY COUNCIL TAX RISES WORST IN THE COUNTRY

Anne Lee: "Pensioners and those on fixed incomes repeatedly tell me how difficult it is for them to make ends meet"
It has been confirmed that Surrey residents have suffered the worst increases in Council Tax in the country in the last four years (39.9%). And in the last 8 years (since 1997) residents have suffered a whopping increase of 89.2%.
Dr Anne Lee (Woking Liberal Democrat's Parliamentary Spokesperson) said "this is why so many people in Woking signed the petition to axe Council Tax. I delivered this petition to Downing Street recently, and MP Ed Davey (Lib Dem Shadow for the Deputy Prime Minister) has been invited to come to Woking to explain how Local Income Tax would work better.
"Pensioners and those on fixed incomes repeatedly tell me how difficult it is for them to make ends meet. Woking Borough Council was right to support Woking's Lib Dem Councillors demand that the council's services must provide value for money, but only £13.90 in every £100 goes to the Borough Council. It is rises in the County Council tax which hurt us the most.
"It is the Tory-led Surrey County Council which has let us down locally, and the government's refusal to listen to the Audit Commission (who supported the Liberal Democrat's call for a Local Income Tax) is causing a national problem for poorer families.
Property revaluation for rates, which is due to start soon, will only make the problem worse."
